How are these translated into marketable products? This course looks at the increasing complexity and cost of developing technological innovations and how the process has been revolutionised by ICT. Sustainability concerns are a major theme and are addressed at every stage, ranging from the role of governments in steering the direction of NPD, through consumer demand for eco-products, to carrying out environmental impact assessments and finally to considering whether ‘sustainable consumption’ will eventually mean consuming less but gaining a better quality of life. Central to the course is a design project in which there is a chance to apply some of the lessons learnt. This material is taken from The Open University Course T307 Innovation design.
